Joey Valence & Brae Deliver Chaotic ‘Security’ Performance for ‘Like A Version’

Their Like A Version appearance arrived during the Australian leg of the HYPERYOUTH World Tour.

Joey Valence & Brae brought pure chaos to triple j’s Like A Version with a heavy, synth fueled rework of Security, transforming the 2021 punk track into an explosive dance rap performance packed with booming bass and frantic energy.

Currently on the road supporting their third studio album HYPERYOUTH, the duo completely reshaped the original version by stripping away its gritty pub rock guitars and rebuilding the song around electronic production, distorted low end, and fast paced vocal trade offs. Despite the dramatic sonic shift, the performance still carried the same raw intensity that made Amy Taylor’s original delivery so memorable.

During the session, Brae explained that the duo picked “Security” because of the immediate rush the track gives listeners.

“Just has so much energy. As soon as you hear it, you want to bounce off the wall,” he said. “So we knew we had to cover that one.”

The pair also highlighted Taylor’s unpredictable performance style along with the rough and unfiltered feel of the recording, qualities that helped turn Comfort To Me into an international breakthrough release for Amyl and the Sniffers.

Released in 2021, “Security” appeared on Comfort To Me, the band’s second studio album, which cracked the top 25 on the Australian albums chart and helped significantly expand the Melbourne group’s global audience. The project later pushed Amyl and the Sniffers onto major festival lineups and worldwide touring circuits, with Amy Taylor quickly becoming one of the defining frontwomen in modern punk.

Joey Valence & Brae’s version takes the song somewhere completely different sonically, blending dance music production with Beastie Boys inspired rap flows and frantic electronic textures, all signature elements of the duo’s own sound.

Last year, the pair released HYPERYOUTH, a project that featured collaborations with artists including JPEGMAFIA, Rebecca Black, and TiaCorine. The entire album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Valence from his bedroom studio in Pennsylvania.

Their Like A Version appearance came during the Australian leg of the HYPERYOUTH World Tour, which recently made stops in Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth.
