Kid Cudi and Ye, previously known as Kanye West, have experienced many ups and downs in their friendship over the past 20 years. During a weekend conversation with a fan on X, Cudi shared an encouraging update about where things currently stand between them.

“Im sure we will yea,” he replied when asked whether he might collaborate with Ye again. “Right now were rebuilding our friendship.” Cudi also explained that they have recently reached out to one another simply to check in, without discussing any potential music.

“I hit him a week ago to check in on him, today he hit me to check on me. No work talk,” Cudi added. “Just seeing how I was doing. It was nice. And stream, who knows! One day soon for sure.”

The Ohio artist previously appeared to make a peaceful gesture toward Ye during his Rebel Ragers Tour by finishing his concerts with “Reborn,” a highlight from Kids See Ghosts. The song appeared on their collaborative album and entered the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018.

“This one’s for Ye,” Cudi told fans at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre in April. “We gotta sing this loud so Ye can hear you.”

Cudi first met West in 2006, and Yeezy signed the emerging rapper to G.O.O.D. Music two years later. Their relationship has faced repeated conflicts since then, although they seemed to make progress in early 2024 when Cudi said Ye had offered him a genuine apology.

While appearing on CBS Mornings in August 2025, however, Cudi said their bond would never return to what it once was. He also discussed several moments when Ye deeply hurt him, including West’s remarks about Virgil Abloh after the designer died in 2021.

Now, there appears to be renewed hope that one of hip hop’s most successful creative partnerships can be repaired. Their previous collaborations include the 808s & Heartbreak opening track “Welcome to Heartbreak,” along with “Erase Me,” “Gorgeous,” “Make Her Say” and “Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1.”
