The mayor got fans talking when he said that the FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium would “coincide with July 4th, America 250, and Taylor Swift’s wedding”

Taylor Swift has been spotted leaving Electric Lady Studios after an overnight session lasting around nine hours, while New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has appeared to indicate when her wedding to Travis Kelce may take place.

The pop star was seen arriving at Electric Lady Studios in New York on Monday (June 15) at approximately 8pm, before not being seen leaving again until just after 5am. Footage captured of her exit showed her departing alongside Alana and Danielle Haim of HAIM.

It remains unclear what brought Swift into the studio or whether new material is in development, though Electric Lady Studios has long been a regular recording location for her. She has previously worked there on albums including ‘Folklore’, ‘Midnights’, ‘Lover’, as well as various ‘Taylor’s Version’ re-recordings.

In recent months, Swift has continued to release new material following her latest album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, which arrived last October. Earlier this month, she also released ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’, a track created for the new Toy Story film soundtrack.

The song was written and produced with Jack Antonoff, and is told from the perspective of cowgirl Jessie, marking a return to Swift’s country influenced sound.

In the period since her most recent album release, Swift has also been preparing for her wedding to Kelce, with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end previously suggesting the ceremony could take place in the summer months. With Kelce due to report for training camp next month, any potential summer wedding would need to take place in the coming weeks.

However, while the couple have kept details of the date private, Mamdani appeared to reference the wedding during a press conference, suggesting it may be happening in New York in early July.

During the briefing on Monday, Mamdani was asked about city preparations for major upcoming events, including the FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium on July 19, which is expected to draw around 80,000 attendees.

“I am fully confident in the work of the NYPD as well as our state partners in delivering that safe experience,” Mamdani said. “We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events and we are incredibly excited for this one.”

He added further context about the busy period ahead: “We know it coincides with July 4th, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding, all happening at the same time… And we are so excited to welcome the world here.”

The mayor did not expand further on the wedding but added that he wished the couple well, while also clarifying he had not received an invitation despite online speculation.

Billboard has since contacted the mayor’s office for clarification, with a spokesperson stating that the comments were based on a TMZ report suggesting Swift had filed for a permit at Madison Square Garden for the July 4 weekend.
