Zohran Mamdani has sparked widespread speculation after appearing to reference Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce in comments that many interpreted as a hint about an upcoming wedding in New York City.

During a press briefing on Monday, he spoke about city preparations for an upcoming World Cup match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 5, just outside New York City, while also addressing large-scale events expected over the Independence Day holiday period.

He said that he was "fully confident in the work of the NYPD" to provide a "safe experience" for sports fans, and continued, "We are the biggest city in the country. We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for this one."

Mamdani then went on to mention several major occasions expected across the same three-day holiday stretch marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

"We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift's wedding all happening at the same time," Mamdani added with a smile.

When asked if he had been invited to the event, he confirmed that he had not received an invitation.

"I wish them a lovely wedding. I'll listen to Only the Young at home on my own," he quipped, referring to Swift's 2020 politically themed track about the 2018 U.S. elections.

The remarks come amid ongoing reports suggesting that Swift and Kelce may be planning to marry at Madison Square Garden, one of the city’s most iconic venues.

Additional speculation has circulated that the ceremony could take place on Friday, July 3, reportedly influenced by the Broadway schedule of Mariska Hargitay, who is said to have a rare night off from her one woman show Every Brilliant Thing on that date.
