Lauryn Hill is set to be recognised with the Living Legend Icon Award at the 2026 BET Awards.

Producers confirmed on Thursday that the "Doo Wop (That Thing)" star will receive the prestigious honour during the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on June 28.

Hill, 51, has yet to publicly respond to the announcement.

However, BET executive Connie Orlando praised the singer and actress as one of the most influential and enduring figures in entertainment.

"Ms. Lauryn Hill is the very definition of a living legend," she praised. "Across every era, she has never chased the moment; she has shaped it. Her artistry redefined what was possible in our music and gave a generation permission to be fearless, spiritual, and free. Her influence is woven into the fabric of the culture, and it is a profound honour to celebrate her legacy on Culture's Biggest Night."

In a statement, BET explained that the Living Legend Icon Award recognises artists who have "mastered their craft and never let go of the culture".

"This distinction belongs to the artists and creators whose body of work has remained essential not because the culture held on to them, but because they never stopped holding on to it," they added.

Hill first rose to prominence as the lead vocalist of the Fugees. The group's acclaimed 1996 album The Score featured standout hits including Killing Me Softly and Ready or Not.

She later launched her solo career with the release of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998, an album that remains one of the most celebrated records of its era.

Actor and comedian Druski has been selected to host this year's event.

Cardi B leads the nominations with six nods, while Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist each earned five nominations.

During the 2025 BET Awards, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg and Kirk Franklin were all honoured with the Ultimate Icon Award.
