“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie"
Taylor Swift has officially put weeks of fan speculation to rest by confirming that her new song, "I Knew It, I Knew You", will be featured in "Toy Story 5".
Rumours have been circulating among Swift fans for several weeks, beginning when the singer briefly launched a mysterious countdown on her website before removing it ahead of its completion.
The countdown was styled using colours strongly associated with the "Toy Story" franchise. Speculation intensified further when a billboard featuring the initials "TS" against a blue sky and white cloud background appeared. Fans quickly pointed out that the image contained exactly 13 clouds, a reference to Swift's famous lucky number. Pixar later fuelled the excitement by posting an image of the billboard across its social media channels.
Swift has now officially confirmed that her original song "I Knew It, I Knew You" will be included in the upcoming film, which arrives in cinemas on June 19. The single is scheduled for release on Friday, June 5, and is available to pre-order now.
"I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie," Swift wrote. "I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?"
Swift co-wrote the track alongside Jack Antonoff, and fans will be able to purchase three different CD editions featuring the film version, an acoustic rendition and a piano version.
"Toy Story 5" director Andrew Stanton also praised Swift's involvement in the project. "It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story. So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet."
The new film continues the story after Woody chose to remain with Bo Peep at the conclusion of the previous movie. Jessie has since become the leader of Bonnie's room, with Buzz Lightyear serving as her second in command. However, Bonnie's attention has shifted to a new favourite toy, a frog-like tablet called Lilypad.
Bad Bunny is also part of the voice cast. It was recently revealed that he will play "Pizza With Sunglasses", a talking slice of pizza described as a forgotten toy living inside an abandoned backyard shed.
Swift's most recent album was 2025's "The Life Of A Showgirl", a record inspired by her experiences during the hugely successful "Eras" tour. The album quickly became the UK's biggest seller of the year, making Swift the first artist since ABBA in 1977 to top the annual sales chart in consecutive years with different albums.
Since releasing the album, Swift has become the youngest female artist ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, recruited Graham Norton, Lewis Capaldi and Cillian Murphy for her "Opalite" music video, and filed trademarks covering her voice and likeness amid growing concerns surrounding artificial intelligence.
