‘Toy Story’ Team Responds To Taylor Swift Soundtrack Theory

Some fans were convinced that the singer wrote a song for the ending credits, after a cryptic countdown appeared on her website earlier this month

The team behind Toy Story 5 have addressed the viral fan theory that Taylor Swift secretly recorded a song for the film’s soundtrack, putting speculation to rest.

The rumours first gained traction earlier this month when the singer briefly uploaded a mysterious countdown timer to her website. The clock was set to expire on May 2 at 2pm, but it was removed before reaching zero, leaving fans searching for clues.

Although Swift never revealed what the countdown was connected to, many fans became convinced it was tied to a collaboration with the upcoming Toy Story sequel. Much of the speculation centred on the website’s visual design, including a cloud-filled backdrop reminiscent of Toy Story, a similar font style, and the fact that both Taylor Swift and Toy Story share the initials “TS”.

Others went even deeper into detective mode, pointing to Swift’s recent fashion choices. Fans noted that she had frequently been seen wearing a horseshoe necklace and dressing in shades of sky blue, white, yellow and red, colours often associated with the beloved Pixar franchise.

Now, with Toy Story 5 set to arrive in cinemas on June 19, members of the creative team have directly responded to the rumours and confirmed that Swift has not contributed any music to the project.

Speaking from Pixar headquarters, director Andrew Stanton, co-director McKenna Harris and producer Lindsey Collins said they were surprised by how quickly the theory spread online. They also admitted they were flattered that so many people believed Swift would want to be involved with the film, according to USA Today.

“It would be pretty amazing,” Collins said, before Stanton clarified that Swift has not contributed to the ending song. “The sad truth is we watched the movie being mixed last week, and the song on the end was not Taylor Swift,” he said.

The film is being produced by Pixar for Walt Disney Pictures and arrives seven years after Toy Story 4. In the years since, audiences have also seen the release of Lightyear, the franchise spin off that explored Buzz Lightyear’s origins and debuted four years ago.

Swift’s most recent album was 2025’s ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, a project inspired by her experiences on the record-breaking ‘Eras’ tour. The album quickly became the UK’s best-selling release of the year, making Swift the first artist since ABBA in 1977 to top the annual sales chart in consecutive years with different albums.

Since releasing the album, Swift has become the youngest female artist ever inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame, recruited Graham Norton, Lewis Capaldi and Cillian Murphy for her ‘Opalite’ music video, and moved to trademark her voice and likeness amid growing concerns surrounding artificial intelligence.
