The Swedish pop star also shared her inspiration for the project, her thoughts on each track and her own girls trip essentials.

Summer energy is not going anywhere, at least according to Zara Larsson.

Fresh off winning breakthrough artist at the 2026 Billboard Women in Music Awards on April 29, the Swedish pop star kept the momentum going with a special listening event for her remix project Midnight Sun: Girls Trip on April 30. The event, hosted by iHeartRadio, was broadcast live on TikTok and radio stations nationwide from the iHeartRadio Theater in Los Angeles, giving fans an early listen to the project ahead of its official release.

Larsson kicked things off with an acoustic version of her Hot 100 hit “Midnight Sun” before sitting down for a conversation with iHeartRadio host EJ, where she explained her decision to expand what she calls the “Midnight Sun universe.”

“I think music and culture in this day and age, it moves quickly, but I’m definitely not ready to move on from Midnight Sun, for a little while at least,” she said. “And I just thought, have fun. It’ll be so fun.”

She also spoke about the artists who inspired her approach to the remix project.

“People have been doing it for a long time, but I was really inspired by Charli XCX. I was really inspired by PinkPantheress,” she explained. “Even though a song is out, you can still have so many different worlds and sounds around the song. If a song is good enough, it can kind of be anything.”

Girls Trip features ten reworked versions of tracks from Midnight Sun, with collaborations from a lineup of women artists. Fans at the event, along with those tuning in via TikTok or the iHeartRadio app, were able to hear five songs in full.

Before each track played, Larsson shared insight into how each remix came together, its sonic direction and the collaborator behind it.

The first track of the evening was “Crush” featuring Eli. She then introduced “Blue Moon” with Kehlani, an artist she said she has admired for years. That was followed by “Hot & Sexy” with Tyla, marking their second collaboration after “She Did It Again” earlier this month. Next came “Pretty Ugly” with JT and Margo XS, a version Larsson admitted she prefers over the original. The set continued with “Eurosummer” featuring Shakira, an artist she has loved since childhood.

“This is legendary status going on right here because [Girls Trip] was like a little bit the talk of the town — I mean at least in the small industry of music that I’m in,” Larsson said. “And one day I got a call, it was my A&R, and he was like, ‘Shakira heard about this project and she really likes ‘Eurosummer.’ And I was like, ‘let’s go.’”

The final remix previewed brought together Swedish pop royalty, with “Puss Puss” featuring Robyn.

“This is my Swedish icon, legend Robyn. Who else would be on this song?” Larsson said as the track began.

Between performances, Larsson also engaged with fans by answering questions from the live audience, TikTok viewers and radio listeners. Many questions leaned into the Girls Trip theme, prompting her to share how she approaches the perfect getaway, including taking on both driver and DJ duties.

“I think the music is quite important,” she said. “The girls trip starts when you get in the car, or on the train, or on the way to the airport.”

The night wrapped with a celebration of her 2015 hit “Lush Life,” which has recently found new momentum online through a viral dance trend. Larsson invited fans who knew the choreography to join her onstage, ending the event with a shared dance moment.
