New music from SZA could be on the way sooner than fans expect.
After one of the most successful years of her career, SZA revealed that she hasn’t really taken any time off—even though she admits she probably should have. In her new GQ cover story written by Frazier Tharpe, the Grammy-winning singer opened up about what life has been like since wrapping her first international co-headlining stadium tour. She shared that as soon as she returned home, she immediately dove back into work instead of resting.
“It’s been about a month and a half since I came home [from tour],” SZA told GQ. “I came back and I just went right into some bullsht. I don’t know why I’m back in the studio making a whole other album, just doing a whole bunch of sht. Spending time outside of my house for days at a time. I feel so frazzled.”
Her words perfectly capture both her creative drive and her fatigue. 2025 has already been a defining year for SZA. She made her acting debut in her first feature film One Of Them Days, performed at the Super Bowl halftime show, and saw her single from SOS spend 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. By all accounts, it should have been the perfect moment to pause and recharge. Instead, she found herself right back in her Burbank studio, continuing to create.
Although SZA confirmed she’s been recording new material, she made it clear there’s no set plan to release a new album anytime soon—possibly not even in 2026. Right now, her focus is on exploring new sounds, collaborating with different writers outside of her usual circle, and studying legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, and The Delfonics. She described this new phase as one centered on experimentation, humility, and growth.
“I want to deliver certified bangers,” she said. “Songs with so much intention that it’s just palpable to anybody.”
As fans online continue to call for a return to “#RealYearning” in music, SZA approaches it with both honesty and skepticism. She remains an artist who feels deeply but never simplifies her emotions for the sake of clarity. Whether she’s frazzled or fully focused, she’s still committed to emotional truth and redefining what modern vulnerability in music sounds like. While it’s unclear when we’ll hear her next project, for now, SZA seems ready to let herself rest—at least a little.
