Dasha believes men “can do no wrong” in country music.
The 25-year-old country-pop singer, who shot to fame in 2024 with her viral hit Austin, has spoken openly about the gender imbalance she sees in Nashville, saying male artists often escape criticism for behavior that women would be called out for.
Speaking on Rolling Stone’s Nashville Now podcast, she said, “Especially in the country world, men, for the most part, can do no wrong. The more they’re outspoken and the more they express their opinions and go outside the lines, the more someone’s like, ‘Oh, he’s so cool.’”
She went on: “Women are so cutthroat. If I saw a woman breaking the rules online a bit, in the country world, wearing some shorts that show her cheeks, I’d be like, ‘Go queen!’ But they’re like, ‘You stupid b****.’”
Dasha added that therapy has helped her cope with negative comments online.
She explained: “Now, when I see those comments, I’m like, ‘Thanks, Karen from Minnesota, you’re feeding my algorithm. Appreciate you, girl.’”
The singer, whose full name is Anna Dasha Novotny, recently released the single Train from her upcoming EP Anna, which arrives on October 10.
The eight-track project also features previously released songs like " Like It Like That, Oh, Anna!, and her viral success Not At This Party, which international DJ David Guetta remixed.
Dasha is also gearing up to support Kane Brown on his UK and Ireland arena tour this October.
The shows begin on October 3 at Dublin’s 3Arena and finish on October 10 at London’s OVO Arena Wembley.
