Joey Valence & Brae are bringing back the vibe of the early 2000s, when artists like Timbaland, Nelly Furtado, and Justin Timberlake ruled the airwaves. The alternative hip-hop pair is doing it in style too, paying homage to the era’s pop and R&B club anthems with their new track “SEE U DANCE.” This one serves as the fourth and likely final single from their upcoming album HYPERYOUTH.
The full project arrives this Friday, August 15, and will feature 14 songs. Guest appearances include one of their biggest inspirations, JPEGMAFIA, along with “Friday” hitmaker Rebecca Black. Over the past few years, Rebecca has been on a steady creative reinvention, leveling up with every new track and feature. On “SEE U DANCE,” she steps into the role of the captivating woman on the dance floor, drawing everyone’s attention.
Rebecca completely owns the “Promiscuous”-inspired beat, which Joey Valence produced. It’s not a straight-up copy of Timbaland’s signature sound from that time, though. Joey layers in bright, 80s-style synths and some unpredictable hip-hop twists toward the end, giving it that Peggy-style experimental edge.
From the first second, the song pulls you in and refuses to let go. “Chemical attraction / We both knew it right away.” We felt it too, Rebecca. We felt it.
The theme of HYPERYOUTH seems to reflect Joey and Brae’s perspective on how people these days tend to hold back from truly dancing and letting loose in the club. If you want to hear them explain it in more detail, check out their interview with Anthony Fantano around the 33-minute mark.
Just don’t forget to put “SEE U DANCE” on repeat before you head out.
