Alli Fitz changes it up in new music video “When We’re Together”

Alli Fitz was nervous when she heard the music video for her new single “When We’re Together” would feature a party scene.

“I was like oh my gosh, I don’t know if I even know enough people to be available at one time for this,” she says.

So Fitz turned to her friend Chazz, who portrays the love interest in the video, and asked if he wanted to throw a party.

“He usually does,” she says. “And they’re really fun.”

Sure enough, he put together a party with a bunch of people––including his dancer friends, who pulled off some choreographed moves in the background––and they pulled off a lively and seductive video directed by Darius Dantzler, who also convinced Fitz to wake up at 4 a.m. for a trip to the beach to shoot more scenes.

The music video, and the single itself, are quickly building a following, which is nothing new for Fitz (also known as AlliCattt), a pop singer, songwriter, comedian, YouTuber and TikToker who’s been entertaining millions for well more than a decade. She started posting videos of herself singing covers of popular music in her bedroom, which got her started, and in 2013 she launched a Vine account that gained more than five million followers and more than a billion video views. A year later she created a new YouTube channel where she sings, plays video games and shows her voice over work; she’s since gained more than 650,000 followers on that platform, and has more than seven million followers on TikTok, where she posts her new music.

And her singles are also generating millions of streams on Spotify, with songs like “Fill the Void” and “Disease” each nearing a million plays on their own.

“When We’re Together” is her first release of 2024, and it’s something of a different vibe for Fitz.

“I usually write songs about being an independent single girl,” she says. “You-don’t-need-no-man type songs, empowerment for women, but lately I got into a relationship and I don’t really have many songs talking about the significant other so I decided this time to change it over. Instead of talking about being single all the time, I’m talking about how the guy in my life makes me feel when we’re together.”

Hold me when we rock and sway
Show me you want it
Tonight I let you control my ways
But you gotta stay on it
Baby, baby I promise I’m worth the wait

“We have fun,” she says. “When I’m with him we dance mostly and we laugh and it’s just that happy, carefree feeling. There’s a part in the song DJ let us get a little bit of volume and we have music on blast when we’re in the car. I was thinking of him when I wrote about moments like that.”

“I really love this song, I love it a lot,” Fitz says.

But, “When We’re Together” is her second-favorite song she’s written; she’s never been able to top, in her mind, her personal favorite, “Secret.”

Fitz has more music on the way, and just finished writing a song about always leaving things “at your man who’s not your man’s place, just to have a reason to see him again.”
