DAYTON, Ohio — Dayton singer/songwriter Freemvson has been away from the stage for a couple of years as he dealt with the issues life threw at him, but he’s back stronger than ever with his new single “Shmoke.”
“This is kind of like the beginning for me because I'm restarting my career,” Freemvson said. “I hadn't made music in really a couple of years. My goal now is I want to run a record label and right now I'm kind of the test subject of this label. Since I've been making music for so long, I figure, why not just invest in myself? Why not invest in my own music, invest in my own quality and my own label and in my own mission? And I feel like if I do that and I do it aggressively, I think people will catch on and they'll follow suit and they'll want to be a part of what I got going on.”
“Shmoke” is a powerful song mixing Freemvson’s strong lyrics with his friend and collaborator Ca$he bringing the heat with a booming beat that mixes perfectly with Freemvson’s voice.
“Ca$he is a veteran in the game,” Freemvson said. “He's a producer, artists, just all around, talented. He's a better lyricist than even I am. You know, he can can freestyle. He can just spit the nastiest bars I ever heard. It was actually Ca$he who got me into recording and music production.”
The two were friends from high school who had a chance meeting later in life when Freemvson was out with some girls and Ca$he was out with some friends of his own.
“We just started talking and then got to talking about music,” Freemvson said. “I always knew he made music, he's made music since high school. He's been making music longer than I have. And he showed me some of his music on Apple Music and to me at the time it was like, bro, are you on Apple Music? Are you famous?”
Ca$he showed Freemvson the ropes of the music business and Freemvson bought the equipment he needed for his own studio and started making music. Ca$he and Freemvson have collaborated many times over the years including this time when Ca$he let him listen to a beat Ca$he called “Shmoke.” Freemvson was hooked and built his lyrics around that name.”
“I'm going through a breakup, you know,” he said. “I didn't have a car at the time, I was just down bad. I had just performed a show in Denver and my girl left me while I was out of town. I hadn't even performed in two years until now. And like, now I got a music to make, and I've still got my studio. And I'm just like let me get back focused on the music. When I was writing ‘Shmoke,’ I was just kind of just feeling all kinds of things, anger and stuff. And the beat just kind of kept pulling me in because it's just a fire beat. Let's be honest, the beat's fire and I kind of just went off the title of the beat.”
Freemvson said he starts by listening to a beat and freestyling off it, then writing the rest of the lyrics off that freestyle.
“I like to start off freestyling to get the flow going and then I'll record a few freestyle bars and then I'll get that delivery on point first and get the cadence going and then I'll start writing and stuff,” he said. “My core message with ‘Shmoke’ is watch out, I got power behind me. I got people backing me up. I got some wisdom now, I feel like I've learned a lot. I'm coming in bigger than I ever have and this time I got real artillery behind me. This time I got real wisdom. I got real knowledge and aggression behind me. I want to get people hyped. I want to get people aggressive. I want people to to feel it and get motivated.”
