Life for Atlantic City based rapper Crazy 8 has been a wild journey, as he has spent his six years of adulthood behind bars and experienced ample loss of loved ones and family. Now the 24-year-old hip-hop artist is releasing a new track called “Lost” that was written in prison, which he remembers those close to him who are no longer with us.

Crazy 8 has been making the most of his time in prison recording music that he says all can enjoy and relate to. He takes pride in his drill/love rap style, and he has more than 100 notes of different genres of rap in his tablets.

His most recent track “Lost” tells a melancholic story of the people in his life he has been close to that he has lost in a variety of ways. The tune has a catchy hook and a steady beat, and serves as a chance for Crazy 8 to touch on how much these people meant to him in his life. He said that this song is one about his evolving life, and that it could even be made into a movie because of how real it hits. It is a song that people who have gone through loss can understand.

“This is all real life and reality,” said Crazy 8. “Not even just me, millions and millions of us still going through it.”

He added, “When they hear this ‘Lost’ song, I am going to be the one who lets them know that we still remember them.”

Crazy 8 said his style of rap is ever-changing. He will often listen to a tune and that will lead to the direction he is heading.

“I like to switch it up because different people relate to different things, but I consider myself more of a drill/love rapper,” Crazy 8 said in his bio. “Depends on how I’m feeling.”

Sometimes he won’t listen to any music at all and will start from scratch. He grew up listening to the likes of Notorious BIG, DMX, 2Pac, Big Pun and Fat Joe. He also is inspired by Gucci Mane, Lil Baby and King Von. He respects the hard work these artists put in and uses this devotion as his own inspiration.

He also uses his life experience of being sentenced to 26 years in a New Jersey prison for charges involving gang activity, two shootings, possession of a weapon and carjacking. While he was sitting in prison he thought to himself about the type of talent he had. Crazy 8 had given up rap for years, and instead got himself wrapped up in the street life, which led him to his incarceration. People told him that the street life would have him wind up behind bars, and he said he knew this was true because his “pops” did jail time and his uncle had died.

“I was already hip deep in,” Crazy 8 said.

Recalling his love for making music led him to his drive to keep creating to this day. When he was young he would rap with his uncle in the studio, but while he really enjoyed it, he added that the street life drew him in. Crazy 8 said now that he is living in prison he is using the time to go back to what he loved: making music.

In Crazy 8’s biography he says that he is a “chill type of person” who just likes to have fun.

“I’m just ready to start switching up the energy in the game a lil bit and put some Jersey in it,” Crazy 8 said.

Crazy 8 has been busy creating the “23 and 1” mixtape and releasing four other songs along with “Lost.” Currently he is working on an initiative called K.F.C., which stands for Kids Fighting Cancer.

“As I’m sitting her thinking it’s hard for us in prison or people out there, but what’s really harder than dealing with a kid fighting cancer?” Crazy 8 said.
