After spending decades in the insurance industry, Dale Bushka has been realizing the many creative projects he has been dreaming up over the years. He has been hard at work crafting compelling stories in music and film about themes such as love, life, and sacrifice, exploring the extremes of emotion, and focusing on the ways in which we navigate life and grow closer to one another.

Bushka says, “I’m an emotional guy. I write songs in the midst of emotion. These emotions let you make things that people will relate to. Because to be a good songwriter, you’ve got to be a good listener. You’ve gotta listen to what’s in the stories people tell you.”

His latest audiovisual project “Casey’s Shadow” showcases two characters, Casey and his girlfriend, navigate a dark romance. Bushka says, “Casey asks a question of how much do I love my girlfriend? Could you love her so much that you would kill for her? I want people to see that even in extreme situations, everyone feels the same emotions and can relate. I want them to imagine what it is like to be so full of emotion that anything is possible.”

Bushka decided to pursue the story behind “Casey’s Shadow” after reflecting upon the stories currently present in our media landscape, saying “Casey’s Shadow is morbid. How many times a songwriter can say ‘I love you’? It’s a small twist on our stories of love and passion for one another.”

Describing his original premise, Bushka says, “Casey and his girlfriend are passionate for one another. But when they’re in bed together, Casey has to go to his fishing boat. His girlfriend assumes he just goes to his boat, but he’s a killer. A paid killer. That’s what he does for a living. When he gets a big chunk of change, his girlfriend doesn’t know. That’s his secret: Casey’s Shadow. Will she be next?”

However, the details of the story have greatly evolved as the story approached its upload to YouTube. He says, “At the end, he’s [now] drawn to the mob and he’s trying to get the money for his girlfriend and ends up stuck in desert.” Soon after, a dark twist in the story leads to Casey’s Shadow becoming a haunting force looming over his girlfriend.

Bushka is still excited about the promise his team showed in filming the project. “The crew was really amazing,” Bushka explained. “Our actors were phenomenal, really. We even called Tyler, who played Casey, One Take because he was just so spot on. He and everyone else were really incredible to work with.”

Bushka’s next two projects are a song titled “Girl, You’re God’s Problem Now” and another audiovisual project called “Totally Tubed”.

In “Girl, You’re God’s Problem Now”, “a girl drives everyone nuts while she’s alive, but she passes away. Everyone’s happy to see her ‘dead’, saying ‘God, she’s your problem now.’ But little do they know…” Bushka says that the song will be “loud and over the top”, featuring sounds inspired by ACDC and country music.

His next project, “Totally Tubed” is a song and short film about a boyfriend and girlfriend madly in love, exploring the feelings of warmly growing together. Bushka says, “The guys’ got gashes. He’s broken himself so many times. But it’s the question of how much does he really love me?”

“Their greeting is the same every time. Whenever they see each other, they continue the greeting, and they keep everything kind. It’s about when you’re in somebody’s life for over 10 years. Married and madly in love.”

Bushka is excited about these projects because of how vastly different they are from “Casey’s Shadow”. He says, “I’m always writing doing something. I never want to do anything over and over again. Even when I write a story, they are not the same. You gotta keep it interesting. You gotta pique people’s interest.”

Using all of his remaining pent-up energy and imagination, Dale Bushka is excited to be sharing each of these stories about connection with audiences using the magic of film and music.
