If people are talking about you, then you’re doing something right.
If people are talking about you, then you’re doing something right. And if you aren’t building anything, you won’t be a topic of discussion.
That’s the message from TMike’s new single “City Blues,” which features fellow Fort Myers, Florida native C Stunna in a collaboration that was a long time coming.
“We got to the studio and we just did a back and forth thing and it gave birth to ‘City Blues,’ TMike says. “We were talking about our different experiences. It’s just a super fun beat and an upbeat, fun song. When Hero (the engineer) first started creating the sounds of it it made you move and that’s what made me fall in love with it. When the song comes on you have no choice but to move.”
“Ain’t nothing wrong with going broke, that’s just motivation,” C Stunna raps on the track’s first line.
And that’s a big part of the message: sometimes you have to go broke for the things you believe in.
“Sometimes you can’t buy shoes, you have to pay bills,” TMike says. “Sometimes you have to keep your lights on instead of going to the club and there’s nothing wrong with that. The main thing is to just keep going.”
TMike released the song on the same day as another single, “Already Made It.” That’s another upbeat song about people getting better all the time, and it also sees TMike reflect on what he’s overcome to reach this point in his career.
Those are two of a handful of singles he’s put out in what he calls a “superb” year for him – and there’s a lot more to come.
“Multiple songs, multiple albums and projects are in the works,” he says. “At this point it’s just about how I want to roll out the music. I had a huge learning experience this year, not only learning about myself but about the music business.”
His next single will be “Double R,” a club banger with a tough beat. It’s another track that will make you bob your head and move when it comes on.
His next full project will be Last Night Was a Blur, an album featuring about 10 songs, which will be released in 2023.
“To be completely honest, I feel like my sound is still in development,” he says. “I still don’t truly believe I’ve found my sound, personally. I’m still throwing stuff against the wall every day. It’s just a mixup between everything that influences me. I’m still trying to find TMike, but I’m in love with the process of making music so I still feel like every day I can evolve and do something better to make myself a bit more distinct so when I do come on you already know it’s TMike.”
More than money, TMike just wants his music to be appreciated. It’s been a part of his life since his days growing up in the church and performing in the choir. He didn’t start taking it seriously as a career, though, until about five years ago. Now he lives by a simple acronym: T.A.M.E.
“The art means everything,” he says.
