Kevin Federline supports Britney Spears as she receives treatment in rehab

Britney Spears’s former husband Kevin Federline has said he is “happy that she is getting help” as she enters rehab.

Over the weekend, a spokesperson for the pop star confirmed that she had chosen to check into a treatment facility last week, coming several weeks after she was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Responding to the update, Kevin’s attorney shared a statement backing her decision on Monday.

"Kevin is aware of the reports that she has checked into rehab and that if she needs help, he is happy that she is getting help and that the decision appears to be one that she made and not one imposed upon her by others if it was," his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told TMZ.

"The key is that whatever the recommended treatment plan is that she follows it and completes it," he added.

The Toxic singer was arrested on March 4 after being stopped by police in Ventura, California on suspicion of DUI. She was released from custody the next day.

At the time, her representative told People that the "unfortunate incident" was "completely inexcusable".

"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in a long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney's life," they continued. "Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time."

Speaking about the arrest a few days later, Kaplan said on behalf of his client, "Kevin hopes for the best for Britney and if help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her. The concern is whether this is just a one off or a one more."

Spears and Federline were married from 2004 to 2007, and they share two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
