Their most recent UK shows came as part of the ‘Gran Turismo’ 20th anniversary run.

The Cardigans have confirmed that they will return to the UK for the first time in eight years, with a London show set for this summer.

The Swedish pop group last performed in the UK in December 2018, when they played a short run of dates celebrating the 20th anniversary of their influential fourth album ‘Gran Turismo’.

That series of shows wrapped up at London’s Eventim Apollo, and the band have now revealed they will return to the same venue for a one night only performance on June 27. The date will stand as their sole UK appearance of 2026.

The early entry show will have a 9pm curfew, with tickets available first via a pre sale starting at 10am on Wednesday January 28 for fans who register here. General sale will follow at 10am on Friday January 30, with tickets available here.

The band originally formed in 1992 and released their debut album ‘Emmerdale’ in 1994. Their breakthrough came two years later with the single ‘Lovefool’, which climbed to Number Two in the UK and featured in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet soundtrack.

They went on to score further hits including ‘My Favourite Game’, ‘Erase Rewind’ and ‘Hanging Around’, before stepping away following the release of their sixth album ‘Super Extra Gravity’ in 2005.

In the years that followed, frontwoman Nina Persson released music through her solo project A Camp and appeared as a guest vocalist on Manic Street Preachers’ ‘Your Love Alone Is Not Enough’, taken from their 2007 album ‘Send Away The Tigers’.

After reuniting in 2012, The Cardigans have continued to perform live on a selective basis, touring intermittently across Europe and Japan, including two shows in Japan last October.

As for new material, Persson suggested in 2014 that fresh music was possible, saying that “if we continue having this much fun [on tour] we would like to make another record, because we like to create new things.”

So far, the closest hint of that has come in the form of a short clip shared on social media in 2022, which appeared to show the band playing previously unheard music.
