Who better than Young Miko to bring an extra layer of playful, sapphic energy to “Gabriela?” On Friday, Katseye dropped a fresh version of their Beautiful Chaos single, this time featuring a Spanish verse from the Puerto Rican star.
“By law, she’s gonna want me to keep going/Come down to Carolina/So you can try a Latina,” Miko delivers in the bridge, rapping in Spanish. “Hands off, Gabriela, better put them on me instead.”
Katseye, made up of Lara, Sophia, Manon, Daniela, Yoonchae, and Megan, first introduced fans to their Beautiful Chaos EP with the high-energy, choreography-filled video for “Gabriela,” which starred Jessica Alba. Back then, Daniela, who is Latina, shared how meaningful it was for her to showcase her heritage in both the song and its telenovela-inspired visuals.
“I feel like the song is about honoring telenovelas and Latin culture, and for me, it’s such an amazing opportunity,” Daniela told Rolling Stone at the time. “It’s truly an honor to sing in my native language and build a deeper connection with our Latino fans and that community.”
This updated take on the fan-favorite comes just days after Katseye made history, performing in front of a massive crowd on Lollapalooza’s mainstage in Chicago over the weekend. “I don’t think the whole ‘Oh, we’re just coworkers, so we can operate like that’ idea would work for us,” Lara told Rolling Stone when talking about their connection. “I think it’s the genuine friendship and real bond we share that makes this so much fun, even when we have a rough day or something wild happens.”
