APtheG’s voice carries lived-in truth—of ambition, trauma and self-made focus.
The first beat came through and caught his attention. The second version locked him in.
“I started freestyling in my head,” said APtheG. “Then I thought, I gotta write to this.”
That spontaneous spark became “762,” the hard-hitting opening track of The Chosen One, APtheG’s latest album. Built around real-life experience, the song's title references the 7.62x39 mm round fired by the Draco, a semi-automatic pistol he spent months trying to find.
“That was a gun I actually tried to get for a while. Couldn’t find it near me. I finally got one—paid $1,100,” he said. “It was probably the most I’ve paid for one.”
While the bars are bullet-tough, they hit deeper than the surface. APtheG’s voice carries lived-in truth—of ambition, trauma and self-made focus.
“I want people to understand where the lyrics come from,” he said. “No Turning Back and Loving Memories—those songs dig into my personal life. I lost my brother and a few family members. Me and my mom’s side—we were close growing up, but drifted.”
Even when his voice is aggressive, his intent isn’t to boast—it’s to connect. “I love doing it, but it’s the music in general that’s a safe place for me.”
That grounding extends to his album title, The Chosen One. It’s less about ego and more about clarity.
“I didn’t really think of the full concept at the time. I was just like, I’m the one that she chose. I got a purpose. I’m the one getting heard,” he said. “Not to sound arrogant, but I was putting in the work and effort more than others around me doing music. Not saying I was better, just more focused.”
That work ethic didn’t appear overnight. It started years ago—first freestyling with friends, then slowly transitioning to writing and recording.
“There were a few guys in the group—we used to sit back, play cards, and listen to instrumentals,” he said. “Later, I got a laptop and a notebook and started writing. You know what they say—if you don’t use it, you lose it. I kind of lost the freestyle flow, but writing helped me focus more. I had more structure.”
Now, he writes and produces his own songs, runs his own label, and continually evolves his sound. His upcoming single blends drill, R&B, and hip-hop—an intentional move to push genre boundaries.
“I’m trying to be just as versatile, if not more,” he said.
Versatility extends to the artists he hopes to support under his label, GTTM—short for Get to the Money.
“I don’t want to box artists into just hip hop or R&B,” he said. “I want to give a platform where they can create what they’re comfortable with.”
For APtheG, comfort also means creating music that connects with family. His daughter, he said, already writes in her own notebook and listens to his softer songs on repeat.
And while he’s proud of the sound and energy on “762,” he’s just as proud of the message he carries with him. When asked what he wanted to say to his listeners, his response was clear:
“Don’t let nobody stop you.”
From the first bar to the final word, APtheG’s The Chosen One doesn’t just sound like an arrival. It feels like momentum.
