The story of Millennium Resorts goes back almost a decade when Raulie and Richerson were in none other than a U2 tribute band together.

Its no mystery that we are living in some chaotic times, and the newest single by musical duo Millennium Resorts titled Not Gonna Do What You Say” gives the proverbial middle finger to those who are messing up the world.

We just wanted to not really do something too political, but to get on the pulse of what everybody is feeling right now,” says Scott Raulie who is half of the Austin, Texas based musical duo that also includes Jonathan Richerson. Were all just sick and tired of everything. Democrat or Republican, it doesnt matter. Just fed up.”

Raulie explains that while he wrote the lyrical hook to Not Gonna Do What You Say,” this song is really Richersons baby.

We love all kinds of music, but he is really inspired by the early production of groups like Nero, and Kanye West, even,” Raulie said. Jonathan really brought the music and the lyrics, I brought the concept of the song, and he filled all the gaps.”

The track has a dark, industrial sound to it that is akin to the tone of Nine Inch Nails. There is plenty of synth with a driving drumbeat, and the dark undertones to the vocals capture the essence of the lyrics through and through. They go through all the emotions, ranging from ominous to rebellious.

“Not gonna do what you say
How dare you tell us our place
Steal, kill, destroy in our name
Then flaunt it in our face

Not gonna do what you say
You will sit back in your place
We won't just wither away
In the guilt of your disgrace”

Raulie likes the fact that this track doesnt pick sides, and that it looks past this football game between Republicans and Democrats.” The lyrics and the energy embraces something that a lot of people can relate to right now.”

The story of Millennium Resorts goes back almost a decade when Raulie and Richerson were in none other than a U2 tribute band together. While Raulie cant help but snicker about the past musical endeavors, he says the thing about being in a tribute band is that you really have to be on point.

The Edge is a pretty inspired guitarist and that was Jonathan in the band,” he says. I played drums. And what I really appreciated about Jonathan was that he was very open minded and experimental when it came to his approach to the guitar. But he is also very technically adept. He can play Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is technically a virtuoso but also so inspired.”

Raulie says this kind of playing inspired him, and he had all these musical ideas that he has been able to bounce off of Richerson. They both discovered EDM at the same time, both seeing so much potential and room to grow.

EDM is fantastic, but it is also kind of just this one thing,” Raulie says. We just want to take it somewhere else.”

The tribute band fizzled out, but Raulie and Richerson had always talked about doing a project together. This is where In The Key of David comes into play, which is a concept album that served as the duos debut album released in 2023. This album has at least five different musical themes running throughout all 10 tracks, and is more like a composition.

Raulie wrote most of the lyrics on the album, saying it is cryptic and esoteric, and open to interpretation. The duo has a wide musical taste, with Raulie saying he is a huge fan of shoegaze and dream pop, and most things psychedelic. They also say bands like Pink Floyd and Radiohead, as well as pop icon Michael Jackson, are major influences on their sound.

After creating the debut album, Raulie says that they are taking a brand-new approach for the future.

We did sit down in the 21st century and wrote a concept album that you put on your headphones and listen to front to back,” Raulie said. With this song we moved past that, and we also hope to have another track coming out in the next week.”

Raulie says this single has been refreshing, considering they are just a couple of guys from Austin, Texas who have day jobs, havent played a live show, and are cultivating audience organically.”

We dont get paid for it or anything, but at least were starting somewhere,” In the 2000s we were playing live shows trying to get a following, and we might get 100 people at a show. Now weve got 200,000 people listening to us, and were just learning as were going.”

The duo plans to continue to release singles and sometime this year there will be an album in the mix. Be sure to check out the newest single by Millennium Resorts, Not Gonna Do What You Say,” available on all platforms.
