Power from Love is an EP that anyone can relate to, especially if you want to be inspired to embrace your personal power.
Portland, Oregon based music artist and singer-songwriter Loraine presents her captivating new EP “Power from Love”. Loraine, originally from the Netherlands and raised in Belgium, wanted great production in her music and that’s what she created with her new EP. By partnering with Germany-based producer Stella Scholaja, the two of them were able to find a sound that brought Loraine’s vision to life. “There was a lot of back and forth. I’m glad Stella was patient with me because I wanted to find the right sound. It was a process but I think the results came out great.”
The EP exists of five songs. Loraine describes the EP’s theme as finding strength not in fear or anger but in love, stillness, and self-worth. "There is power in love, where you don’t necessarily need to do much... it comes down to self-love," she explains, offering listeners a sense of calm and empowerment. The inventive melodies, sound and creative lyrics stand out immediately.
The EP starts with “Rise Up”, a strong electronic build up with the idea of rising from the darkness or ashes behind it. Then it’s the slightly more dancey title track’s turn. “Power from Love” expresses determination. The third song is “Magic Man”, also released as a single. Loraine said that while the other songs on Power from Love were written recently, “Magic Man” was written nearly 10 years ago, while she was nannying four little girls who loved fairies, mermaids and magical worlds. This inspired the lyrics of “Magic Man”. The fourth track “By the Ocean”, is a unique blend of melody, harmonies, spirited lyrics and electronic sounds. And the last song on the EP, “Starlight”, the first released single, is a beautiful ballad inspired by the journey Loraine and her husband, filmmaker Shaun Kosta, went through during the immigration process of her moving from Belgium to the States.
Loraine was a fan of electronic music before she began to make it herself. Her background actually includes playing the clarinet in orchestras in Europe, which is far from what she’s doing on Power from Love, although this background has helped with building music arrangements. Additionally, there were other elements from the orchestral world that Loraine brought over to the current world she’s in, with the most impactful one for her being melodies. She spoke of how powerful they can be and how they can convey feelings without lyrics.
“Melodies are beautiful because they’re the language of music. It’s a language that speaks louder than words.” she said
