Mundane Miracle is a lo-fi electro/retrowave artist who utilizes humorously clever song titles and creates layered music. His latest single, “Culmination,” is not his last song but a song intentionally named nonetheless. When speaking with Mundane Miracle, I couldn’t help but notice the happiness within his voice and tone. Making music is something that started as a hobby for him but it turned into something he took more seriously, yet, he still kept the spirit of fun within it in all aspects.
Mundane Miracle’s song “Culmination” stands out from his previous releases from 2024. While his other releases have humorous wordplay and alliteration in their titles, this track is a shift in tone. Mundane Miracle talked about the existential aspects of the song he felt during the creation process which lead to the straightforward title. There’s a bit of irony within it too. As previously stated, this is not his last song and ironically a “Culmination 2” may be released in the future. While speaking on his musical journey, Mundane Miracle reflected on his very first release and the time that had passed since this latest one. Originally, he was releasing music under a completely different name but has since released six songs under this name on streaming services.
“...I’m still learning. I’m still evolving and implementing new things and trying new types of songs. I feel like this song is the culmination of my being. This was almost like the pinnacle of everything. I feel like I was meant to write this song.” he said.
Mundane Miracle’s song titles and stage name jump out immediately when looking at his page on music streaming services. Surprisingly - or perhaps unsurprisingly, considering his love for alliteration - this stage name was originally going to be a song title. But, since he liked it so much, he decided to make it his own identity.
“I just thought it was a really cool combination of words. I don’t remember seeing them together anywhere before or maybe, I remember seeing them subconsciously. I thought they sounded beautiful together…I thought it was so good that I got rid of my old name and started using this one going forward. I’ve been using this name for about a year now. I think it fits me really well. I try to not take myself too seriously and stay humble so that’s the Mundane side. But, the fact I’m making this music is a Miracle itself and I think the music I make is beautiful - but other people might think it’s mundane. So the name sums up the music pretty well.” he said
As far as the way “Culmination” itself sounds, it has a certain ominous feeling and this is magnified by how more and more sounds are added as the song progresses. The various key sounds bring to mind the sounds heard on computers in the early 2000s as they warp, weave and pan throughout the listener’s headphones. It’s a combination of mysticism and reflection echoing throughout the song as the drum pattern gives it just enough bounce to even be slightly danceable. Mundane Miracle’s ability to know when and where to add and remove sounds is the driving force of “Culmination.”
“I originally thought it was going to be an atmospheric song. I had a nice soundscape and I just figured I could add to it and it springboarded from there.” he said.
With instrumental music, it’s very easy for listeners to see images in their minds as the music plays. Mundane Miracle has used imagery like the “Pipes” screensaver from Windows computers in the 2000s to translate the nostalgic feeling of some of his previous music. Meanwhile, with “Culmination” he wanted to translate two feelings that many people see as opposites but there is a commonality between them in his mind.
“...It’s an explosion of thoughts. It’s a scary feeling that becomes beautiful. I love how it came out because there’s a fear to it that’s beautiful at the same time.” he said.
Considering this, Mundane Miracle hopes people hear the contrast he was going for within the song but hopes people experience other feelings while listening too.
“I hope it helps people relax. I want them to experience a calming uplifting happiness.”
Mundane Miracle plans to release more music in 2025 that encompasses multiple moods and atmospheres. You can keep up with Mundane Miracle on the following platforms:
