“Don’t chase your dreams; manifest your dreams,” a sentiment from Moose Biggz as he reflects on his upbringing, creative process, and how music serves as a platform for transforming his life.
Texas-based rapper Moose Biggz releases his new album “Lucid Dreams” and explores the dichotomies in his various life experiences. He describes the surreal feeling when you wake up and everything still feels like a dream until gradually the reality sets in. On the unconscious side of that, when lucid dreaming, you are aware you’re dreaming so you can often control the environment and narrative. Moose Biggz reverses this concept and applies that same control to his conscious dreams and the path to achieving them. However, many of us don't develop this mindset overnight; it's something cultivated through experience and the lessons we learn over time.
Growing up, Moose Biggz shares about the financial hardships his family faced and their resourcefulness in overcoming those challenges. He jokes about the time his family ran out of gas for cooking and couldn’t afford more, so his dad repurposed kerosene oil to produce a meal for the family that night. No money for curtains? No problem—bed sheets did the trick. He says, “We never lacked for love or creativity.” Moose has always loved music, feeling like he had a soundtrack to life growing up. He especially resonates with the sultriness and themes of blues genres and appreciated a variety of artists like Michael Jackson, Tupac, and Kurt Cobain, who weren't afraid to speak their truths no matter how vulnerable it seemed. Not dwelling on the have-nots, embracing emotionality, and being resourceful all play into an overarching theme of Biggz's newly released single “Hustle Harder.”
He continues to reflect on his experiences and how he navigates the inevitable roller coaster of life. “Between the highs and lows, somewhere in the middle, you’ll find your sanity,” he laughs. Two songs on his album, “Top of the World” and “Persecuted by Pain,” explore these ups and downs. Interestingly, he shares that during hard times, he often maintains the most positive outlook and perseveres toward the light at the end of the tunnel. “Persecuted by Pain” addresses the devastating loss of family and friends, highlighting the painful yet necessary process of facing your demons and embracing your resilience to ultimately come out okay. In contrast, in his song “On Top of the World,” he emphasizes the importance of remembering what lies beneath the surface, rather than being consumed by the false highs of material wealth.
“What’s a diamond if it don’t reflect? What’s the point in havin’ money shinin’ if there’s no respect?”
He unpacks those lyrics, “[what’s the point of money, if you lack integrity, loyalty, and a moral code. It’s fine to desire shiny things, but if you’re solely motivated by extrinsic value, you’re not ‘reflecting’ on what it is to have intrinsic fulfillment. And that’s the real low].”
Much of manifesting your dreams and giving life meaning comes from remaining grounded in all of it, he reemphasizes.
Another album theme that centers around manifesting your dreams is the ability to overcome self-sabotaging behaviors. He mentioned that before COVID, he was on the cusp of starting his project Lucid Dreams, but instead hit the brakes. Now that the album is finally out, he notes, "It really just took getting out of my own way." When asked about his favorite part of making the project, he drew a similar parallel to this experience, sharing that a couple of the songs on the album came to him not through intentional writing but just by showing up at the studio. He didn’t know what the outcome would be, but he had to let go of excuses, which allowed him to freestyle and conjure up three new songs for “Lucid Dreams”. As you listen to the album, you'll notice he often addresses these self-sabotaging behaviors and emphasizes that a key element in staying on track to achieve your dreams is to get out of your own way.
Through his music and personal journey, Moose Biggz demonstrates the power of manifesting dreams not just by "chasing" them but by taking action, confronting self-defeating behaviors, and staying true to his values—and ultimately “Hustl[ing] Harder."
