SXSW Pop: What's the story behind your latest single "Jesus Is Your Name"? What inspired you to write it?

PrincessGillianGospel:
The single "Jesus Is Your Name" was inspired by a period of personal reflection and spiritual growth. The song aims to convey a message of hope and redemption, highlighting the transformative power of faith, hope knowing recognizing and letting people to that his name is Jesus.

SXSW Pop: How do you come up with your song titles and lyrics? Do you have any favorite writing techniques or rituals?

PrincessGillianGospel:
Song titles and lyrics often come from personal experiences, emotions,  knowing the bible or stories heard from others. I like to keep a notebook to jot down ideas as they come, and sometimes, setting aside dedicated time for brainstorming helps. Also, walking in nature or quiet meditation are rituals that stimulate my creative flow.

SXSW Pop: Can you tell us about your musical influences? Are there any specific artists or genres that have shaped your sound?

PrincessGillianGospel:
Influential artists vary widely among musicians, often spanning genres and eras. Defining my musical style can be challenging as it blends elements from multiple genres, with a touch of soul. Influential artists for me are Sony Okosun, who sings both gospel all types of various music, Yolanda Adams and Pastor Shirley Caesar which I strive to emulate in my own work

Balancing creative vision with team input requires open communication and trust. I value the expertise of my team but also make it clear about my artistic intentions. It's a collaborative effort where feedback is welcomed but the core artistic decisions remain true to my vision.

SXSW Pop: What's the most memorable show or performance you've ever had? What made it so special?

PrincessGillianGospel:
The most memorable performance was at a small, intimate venue shortly after the release of my first album. The connection with the audience was palpable, and the energy was reciprocal. It felt like a shared experience rather than just a performance, which made it incredibly special.

SXSW Pop: How do you approach the process of crafting a setlist for a live show? Do you have any favorite songs to play or stories to share?

PrincessGillianGospel:
Crafting a setlist for a live show involves considering the flow of energy and emotion I want to convey. I start with a couple of high-energy songs to engage the audience, sprinkle in the new or experimental tracks mid-way, and often close with a well-loved hit. Sharing stories behind the songs sometimes helps the audience connect more deeply with the music. this is one of my favorite JESUS IS THE WAY · ( Princessgilliangospel ) .
