Multi-talented musician Sarah Gibson delivers a powerful bluesy ballad for music lovers everywhere. Her latest single, “Long Way Down,” welcomes listeners through vivid storytelling and undeniable talent.
Sarah Gibson first began playing instruments in the sixth grade, starting with the saxophone. “I learned that I had an ear for music, because when my father was playing piano one afternoon after school, I sat down beside him and started to improvise without knowing any of the notes yet. But I was in key! After that first feeling, I was hooked!” tells Sarah.
Sarah blends genres and styles to showcase her emotional vocals and musical artistry. A master of many instruments, she is able to weave in and out of sound acrobatically, bringing together the best of every genre to create a masterpiece uniquely hers. “I love the blues and singing with soul,” Sarah shares. “I try and channel my heart with everything I sing.”
Her fresh single is a testament to life’s struggles—and how far we can go to overcome them. “‘Long Way Down’ is a reference to the journey I had to make from being pushed down for so long by someone who never wanted me to succeed or be happy,” explains Sarah of her latest single. “It means that I am now so above everything that was crushing me and that it’s going to take me a long time to ever get to that point again. Hopefully, I will never be that low again.” From where she now stands, Sarah Gibson is miles ahead of where she once was (and plans to stay that way).
“Long Way Down” was a collaboration between Sarah and her father. Together, they configured the chord progression. From there, the rest came naturally. That same night, Sarah wrote the song and scratch vocals to give the song a framework. Her original lyrics rang true—the final version of the song never needed a lyrical rewrite.
Once the song was studio ready, Sarah visited The Black Bird Studio in Nashville, along with producer Ben Fowler, to finalize the vocals.
“It’s funny. I never thought I’d write anything close to country. But to be honest, it has a country vibe to it,” says Sarah of “Long Way Down.” Overall, the song can best be described as “whiskey blues rock.” Adding the powerful visuals of the music video, the single is a powerful ballad that speaks to everyone—no matter what their preferred genre.
If Sarah Gibson could gift her listeners any wisdom, she would share this: no matter how low you may feel, there is a path waiting for you to take to change everything. “If you want it, it’s yours,” she adds. “I truly believe everyone has their own path—with its ups and downs—but that’s life.”
These days, Sarah is busy working on a variety of projects, all very distinct from one another. “I love all genres, so I hope my listeners can accept me for the music I use as an outlet and not something to make me famous for,” tells Sarah. “I love jazz. I love rock. I love metal. I love blues. I love R&B. I love Neo-soul. You name it. I appreciate all music and the art of creating it.” To maintain further control of her artistry, Sarah plans to self-release her music. She hopes to continue connecting with listeners who can relate to her story and take comfort in knowing they aren’t alone. “I’m extremely grateful to have music as an outlet and even more thankful for those who feel the same,” she adds.
