The Ebbs and Flow of Rapper Sxint Peter

NEW YORK, NEW YORK—Harlem-based rapper Sxint Peter seeks to shift his musical narrative, releasing relatable music based on his life with his upcoming project It’s Always Something

Originally titled P.U.R.P.L.E. (Pinned Up Realities Painting Life Experiences)—representing the essence of his sound—It’s Always Something highlights the highs and lows of his life beyond the title as an expression. The rapper fuses his early love of poetry, his experience studying music theory at Julliard, and the relatable realities of life.

His latest single “Brooklyn Baby” takes Sxint Peter to another borough his music hadn’t yet, talking about a deeply personal situation with the mother of his child.

“‘Brooklyn Baby’ was inspired by just me going through something that was real. My usual thing is making feel-good, party dance music. This time I decided to put in a real situation I went through with my child's mother,” explains Sxint Peter. The track has reached almost 3 million streams on Soundcloud within a month of its release. “I know there are a lot of people that go through the same thing I went through. I try to promote real situations in my songs now because I see the feedback and how it resonates with people. And this song is actually making an impact right now."

Sxint Peter grew up exposed to soul music by his mother, who would play him Al Green. While learning to play piano, his interest grew into listening to Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and ragtime composer Scott Joplin. In the other room, his brother was a DJ exposing him to various genres that today influence his songwriting–describing it as a newfound sub-genre: “Where R&B meets Eastside Rap and Down South Trap.” Sxint Peter now has writing credits with artists such as G Eazy, Jaquae, and Rotimi.

“All these genres, and all these sounds, I took in and started creating more and more music. And you definitely hear some of the influences in my music today from years ago,” says Sxint Peter.

It’s Always Something is still in the works, but the rapper releases music weekly—posting freestyles and remixes every Wednesday on SoundCloud under the name Peter Rose. His latest track, “What’s Poppin Free,” features a catchy piano over a trap beat, and his fast-paced freestyling matching its upbeat cadence. Sxint Peter could constantly release tracks with easygoing themes, but his goal as a rapper goes deeper into the ebbs and flows of his life.

“I want to have more of the real life situations and the messages in my songs and want to convey that more than the gimmicky party music or doing something extra to promote a record,” says Sxint Peter. "I like to make people feel good. So there's going to be a variety of different sounds and different vibes that make you feel different waves. I'm just going to take the listener on a journey with me when this project comes out.”

Sxint Peter’s plans for 2023 will be sticking to the weekly releases to amp up his fan base prior to It’s Always Something’s release. A few NYC shows are in the works, with talks for dates performing in Japan—proving there’s always something going for the rapper.

“You always go through something, but the end of the road is always a light, and it's always going to be a great outcome as long as you stay consistent and you fight through the trials and tribulations of life.”
