LANCASTER, PA – Hip hop artist Youngworldibi is bringing a harder, more aggressive sound on his sophomore album “Blackout,” now available on all streaming sites.
“Blackout” showcases Youngworldibi’s skill at mixing old-school hip hop lyricism and wordplay with modern catchy hooks and melodies.
“I just go hard and go in on it lyrically. It’s got a club beat to it, but it’s still gritty,” Youngworldibi says of the new album. “It’s hood music. A lot of lyricism, wordplay, and metaphors. It’s a mix of the old school style where lyricism actually mattered.”
After making waves with his debut album “Taking the Throne,” Youngworldibi says he wanted to follow up with an album that showed more of his authentic self and widened the emotional range of his music.
“For this one, I just wanted to come a little more aggressive,” he says. “I wanted to do different styles of beats. You got a lot of happy beats, you got go-hard tracks, feel-good ones, motivating ones. I’m trying to switch it up, to show what I can do musically.”
All that aggression comes out clearly on the emphasis track “Blue Pills,” a dark, thumping track anchored by a mysterious hook, in which Youngworldibi calls out people who take the easy way through life, referencing the blue pill/red pill scene from the classic science fiction film “The Matrix.”
“I’m basically throwing shots about people who have the choice but they still pop the blue pills. Taking blue pills is the safe way. It’s not taking risks. Red pills are reality and don’t settle for less,” he says.
And Youngworldibi has never taken the easy way out. He’s put his money where his mouth is, literally, to make his music dreams come true.
“I put money into this. Because of that, I had to sacrifice a lot of things. There’s a lot of things I can’t do because my money’s going toward my music. That’s my blue pills,” he says.
Youngworldibi says his musical journey was influenced by his time spent behind bars in his youth. He got caught up in crime and was arrested for committing robberies as a teenager.
“I did a lot of time and that most definitely influenced my music. That’s where I found my style. When I was locked up, I was angry and aggressive, so it came out in my music,” he says. “I take this music stuff seriously, and I love what I do and I wanna get it out there.”
Now that he’s committed full-time to making music, Youngworldibi isn’t holding anything back. He’s already planning to drop a new single, “The Ride,” in August.
“It’s just a feel-good track,” he says. “It’s an uplifting kind of track, talking about me and my hustle, just keep going with it.”
He’s also planning to re-release his debut album with remastered and expanded tracks before the end of the year.
