Hailing from Washington D.C., L. Safari Murphy—otherwise known as Stallionaires Pooch—began as an actor with features on Basketball Wives of LA and What the Funny with Marlon Waynes. His musical talents soon earned him much-deserved attention in the industry.
He grew up on the melodies of his blind grandmother on piano and his uncle on guitar, creating an early introduction into the dazzling world of music he would soon come to love. Armed with a natural ability to write songs, Pooch embraced his gifts and began his musical journey at a young age. His process has since evolved yet comes just as naturally as before. “The beats are in my head. It’s all a part of my life, part of my journey. You see so many things in a day that you might not be a part of. I see it and what kind of beat goes with it.”
Instead of writing his thoughts on paper, the artist has a sustainable approach—he carries a tape recorder with a condenser mic for on-the-go inspirations. “I write 20, 30, 40 songs a day. I’ll never run out of material as long as there are people in the world.”
While the industry labels Stallionaires Pooch as a hip-hop artist, he is more than that. The singer-songwriter’s talents span across genres from R&B to reggae to country and more. With witty lyrics set to catchy beats, Pooch captivates audiences across genres and ages. His recent single and upcoming album are the brainchild of Pooch under his brand, Saddle Game Entertainment.
His latest single, “You See Me,” is a musical treat for listeners around the world. The song, in the same vein as all of his music, is about a personal experience. “This particular song is about a woman that I kept seeing every Friday at the club. The man she was with was treating her bad—she was unhappy—so I spoke to her and after that day I wanted to make myself be known. You see me. The hook is saying what I want to do, what I can do, if you allow me to,” explains the artist of the song’s inspiration. “Women don’t have to put up with that bull crap because there are men out there that will treat you better. If he doesn’t treat you with respect and love, don’t settle.”
Stallionaires Pooch’s music can best be described as musical art. “Each one of my songs is different. People love it because they relate to it. I take situations I go through and put melody behind it. I feel like I’m a musical Picasso—each song has a different energy and vibe. I want listeners to experience different emotions like they do through art.”
Ultimately, the artist wants to bring back good music. “I want to change this narrative and take us back to the 80s and 90s. I want fans to listen to music and feel good again.”
