LOS ANGELES – Pop singer Amel Rose wants you to know she’s no princess. From her hardscrabble upbringing in rural Texas to her stint as an international model, the young starlet has worked for everything she’s got. And her new single “Hey Mama,” just might deliver the fame and success she sings about with her delicate yet surprisingly powerful vocals.

“The single is about envisioning myself and my life in the spotlight,” Rose says. “I do a lot of manifesting in my writing, whether it’s personal journaling or my lyrics. I like to use my lyrics as a fortune teller.”

With its driving bass line backing up her sultry cooing vocals that build to a formidable chorus of staccato rhymes, “Hey Mama” may just be the hype song of the summer.

But if 2022 is the summer of Amel Rose, it’s only because she’s earned her success every step of the way.

“I don’t want people to see me as this little princess who was given everything. I didn’t have that. I was dirt poor. I had to work to bring me and my family out of it,” Rose says. “I don’t think I have to explain the pain I went through as a child. That’s not the point of the story. But I want people to know that I worked really hard to get through. I want people to always be kind and patient and stay strong.”

Citing influences as diverse as Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Elvis, and Freddie Mercury, Amel Rose says music has always been a huge part of her life. After a stint working the runways as an international model, she decided to focus on her music career.

“I was modeling in Paris and I wasn’t happy,” she says of her modeling days. “Music has always been a part of me and I just got pulled back into it.”

Rose laid down a bunch of tracks before settling on “Hey Mama” as her latest single.

“It’s a song that’s full of energy and dramatic, but also simple,” she says. “I’m a very soft-spoken person for the most part, but on this single I use a little more power. Delicate yet powerful. Soft, yet also strong.”

Rose has already built up a diverse and devoted fanbase.

“My music brings together everyone from all walks of life – different countries, different gender identities. Even men like my music. Most of the time I feel like that’s really hard to do as a female pop artist.”

One thing’s for certain, you can’t accuse Amel Rose of dreaming small.

“I want the world, as much as music can give me,” she says of her goals as a musician. “I’m a people pleaser at heart and I love to give and give back. Who knows? Maybe I’ll become President one day. Anything is possible.”

The White House may be a way off, but in the short term, Amel Rose is busy prepping for her upcoming shows in the Los Angeles area and getting ready to drop her second single “Swan Song” at the end of May.

“It’s very emotional. It’s the only song I’ve written about love and being in love and having to let go,” she says of the new track.
