MIAMI, FL - Mark Thomas Rhodes, better known as MTStreets is a rapidly rising pop artist who’s sharing his experiences and emotions through his music. Now he is bringing his talent to the world through a new single called “Just Friends.”
MTStreets’ music career began as a producer for his younger brother Bennett, whose stage name was Beanie. “I was proud to be in the shadows while Beanie was in the limelight with his hand around the mic,” MTStreets explained. “Beanie was incredibly talented. He was an old soul who had everything going for him and people from major labels were taking notice. He had just completed his debut album with some big names featured on several songs when his girlfriend passed away from a fentanyl poisoning. One week later, Beanie passed away from the same thing. He was only 19. “When all that happened, I was a total mess.
Bennett was my best friend. We lived together in an apartment at Sunset and Vine in Hollywood, California. We laughed together. We shared big dreams together. We did everything together, then suddenly he was just gone. There was this echoing sound of silence as my world shattered. I spent a few months in the dark, barely able to get out of bed, with the covers pulled over my head before emerging with a compelling desire to honor him. That was the moment I decided to become an artist. My aim now is to represent what Beanie stood for. He believed in diving into painful places to un-trap people from their demons and set them free through his music. And he believed in treating his friends like family.”
MTStreets is sharing his truth with the world through his own music now. Tracks like his recently released “Highway To Hell” explore his battle with addiction and his newest track “Just Friends” meld the personal and relatable to create music that hits deep.
“Just Friends” is a track about a broken relationship. It follows the love story of one of MTStreets’ own relationships. The couple fell hard for each other, then found themselves moving apart geographically. “We were in one of those perfect zones where everything seemed like a movie, until she moved to Costa Rica and I moved to Miami,” MTStreets said. They were apart for several months trying to do the long-distance relationship thing. That wasn’t working so they decided to reunite in Miami. But being together again was different, awkward, everything felt off, and clumsy. “We tried to make it work, but it wasn’t working. That’s when she decided they should be ‘just friends.’”
This experience, though painful, gave birth to the song “Just Friends.” Overall, the track does an incredible job showcasing who MTStreets is as a musician. “I make pop music for people in pain,” he explained. “I want listeners to know they aren’t alone and want them to feel a sense of hope after hearing one of my songs.” This track does just that, it’s an honest account of heartbreak with a bit of light shining for the future.
With the release of “Just Friends,” MTStreets already has two more singles on deck, the first comes out on April 15th entitled “ETA,” an up-tempo track about a guy who is lonely around 2 AM and reaches out to someone who he knows is not right. The second single releases on May 6th entitled “The Message,” an encouraging song emphasizing the importance of being yourself in a world where no one really knows what the truth is anymore. After that, MTStreets will drop a collaborative album with Nova Blisto on June 12th and then spend the rest of 2022 on stage with live performances in
Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. 2022 was meticulously planned out. The idea was to spend the first half of the year writing and living in the studio and the second half performing all the new songs. 2023 is already taking shape too. The artist is heading to Europe in the beginning part of the year. “It’s been a dream of mine to tour in Europe, and in early 2023 that dream will come true,” says MTStreets.
