Spice Girls fans hoping for a reunion tour have been left let down by the group’s latest announcement.

A mysterious clip posted to the band’s Instagram account on Wednesday had fuelled speculation that live dates were on the way.

Instead, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Mel B and Mel C revealed on Thursday afternoon that they were releasing The Singles Collection, bringing together every single from their catalogue.

"The Singles Collection. ALL the singles. ALL the B-sides. And a few surprises from the vault...," the group announced on Instagram.

"For the first time ever, they're all together in THE SINGLES COLLECTION. 14-disc colour vinyl + CD box sets. Original artwork + B-sides."

Arriving on 6 November, the set will be offered on 7" colour vinyl and CD.

Alongside the singles, fans will find previously unheard songs and demos, including the early recording Do You Think About Me. Each member has also contributed a personal message celebrating the anniversary.

The news delighted some followers keen to add the release to their collections, but others had been expecting something different.

"I'll tell you what I want! What I really really want.....A TOUR WITH ALL 5!!" one fan wrote beneath the Instagram post.

"What a waste of excitement," another replied, while a separate comment cautioned, "millennials prepare for tears.... no tour."

Wednesday’s teaser featured a newspaper resting on the steps of London’s St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, the location used for the Wannabe video, with the hit playing over the footage.

The paper was The Stage, which had published the 1994 advert recruiting singers for the female group that became the Spice Girls.

The clip then moved to an inside page containing an advert addressed to the band’s most dedicated supporters.

"R U a Spice Girls fan with the ability to sing and dance? R U a superfan, a collector, a music lover?" the advert asked.

Mel C, Mel B, Emma and Geri last toured together in 2019. Victoria chose to sit out those performances, explaining that her priority was her successful fashion business.

With Wannabe and the group’s first album Spice turning 30 this year, many fans had hoped the milestone would bring another tour.
