Sean 'Diddy' Combs' prison sentence has been shortened.
According to information listed on the Federal Bureau of Prisons website and reported by People magazine, the music executive’s projected release date has been moved forward by 10 days.
This update follows an earlier change made a few weeks ago that had already reduced his sentence by more than a month. Combs is currently scheduled to be released on 15 April, 2028.
He is serving a 50 month sentence after being found guilty last summer on two charges related to transporting individuals for the purpose of prostitution.
Prior to receiving his sentence, Combs had already spent close to a year at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in Brooklyn after he was refused bail.
He is currently being held at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, located around 40 miles from Philadelphia. His legal team had asked for that facility because of its drug treatment programmes and because it is closer to his relatives. Combs has since entered a substance abuse rehabilitation programme, which may allow him to shorten his time in custody through earned good behaviour credits.
In December, the I'll Be Missing You artist’s legal team officially filed an appeal challenging both the conviction and the length of the sentence. They argued that the encounters central to the case were consensual and claimed the judge handed down an excessively severe punishment.
On 20 February, federal prosecutors responded by asking the appeals court to keep both the conviction and the sentence in place. They argued that Combs had shown a pattern of repeated misconduct and alleged he used intimidation and force in committing the offences.
In their appeal documents, Combs’ lawyers referred to his extended prison sentence as a "perversion of justice" and pushed for "immediate release and a judgment of acquittal or at least vacate and remand for resentencing".
Arguments in the appeal case are currently set to be heard on 9 April.
