On Sunday night March 22, fans known as “Blinks” symbolically handed their glowing bi ping bong light sticks over to the “Rubies” during Complex Live at AsiaWorld Expo in Hong Kong.
As the final act of two nights of performances connected to the third annual ComplexCon Hong Kong fashion and pop culture convention and marketplace, the K pop star brought together supporters from both her group and solo careers.
Dedicated Blackpink followers filled the venue alongside newer fans inspired by her “Jennie Ruby Jane” identity, the persona she introduced with her 2025 solo album Ruby. Many attendees embraced her style and attitude, reflecting the strong influence she has developed beyond music.
The packed audience showed they still wanted more from Jennie, despite the fact that Blackpink had wrapped up their Deadline Tour only two months earlier at Kai Tak Stadium, also in Hong Kong.
Taking the stage at 9:45 in the evening and finishing at 10:15, the multi talented performer delivered a focused 10 song set lasting about half an hour, largely centered around songs from Ruby. The performance also marked several important milestones.
Jennie made history by performing solo in China for the first time and by becoming the first woman to headline Complex Live. Showing a bolder image than many female K pop performers, she blended choreography driven R and B with elements of hip hop and club music, while also showing a more fearless attitude onstage.
Fans were treated to a show that felt equally like a high energy music video and a fashion presentation. She began with “Mantra,” joined by a large group of dancers, immediately setting a party atmosphere with her precise yet fluid choreography. She followed with “Love Hangover,” then moved into the dance driven “With the IE (Way Up),” where she moved quickly across the stage with dancers matching her movements.
Jennie also demonstrated her confidence performing solo during “Start a War.” During “Seoul City,” she wore a short veil as a nod to the dramatic one she wore at the 2025 Melon Music Awards that featured Korean lettering. The energetic “ExtraL” and a solo performance of “Handlebars” built momentum toward the highlight of the evening, the first live performance of “Dracula.”
Wearing a striking black outfit that blended high fashion with gothic inspiration, Jennie fully embraced a dark theatrical concept for the song. The excitement continued with “Damn Right,” where her confident walk across the stage gave the feeling of a fashion runway. She ended the set with “Like Jennie,” completing the performance while putting on her Gentle Monster sunglasses.
Reflecting on her appearance, Bonnie Chan Woo, CEO of Complex China, said, “Jennie’s live stages are always so captivating, and it’s clear how much creativity and dedication she brings to every performance. For ComplexCon Hong Kong, she went the extra mile by incorporating new, never before seen elements into her choreography and staging. Her presence in Hong Kong, even a year after her solo album release, meant so much.”
ComplexCon first expanded to Hong Kong in 2024 as an international extension of the original U S event, which has previously taken place in Long Beach, Las Vegas and Chicago. While official numbers for 2026 have not yet been released, early expectations suggest the event could surpass previous attendance and sales records, partly due to Jennie’s appearance and the involvement of this year’s artistic director, Labubu creator and Hong Kong born Belgian artist Kasing Lung. His presence attracted long lines of fans hoping to purchase limited edition Monsters merchandise.
Rare pieces from the Virgil Abloh Archive, which includes more than 20,000 items representing Abloh’s creative work, also attracted significant attention from fashion and streetwear fans. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn art group MSCHF hosted the Pigeons and Planes Stage, combining experimental sound with internet driven culture.
Across its three year history, the festival’s concert lineup has introduced several major international artists to China for the first time, including 21 Savage and Quavo. The event also made global headlines last year when it hosted NewJeans’ final performance before the group became involved in legal disputes with ADOR and ultimately disbanded.
The 2026 edition of Complex Live also featured Yeat, who made his first appearance in China on Saturday, along with performances from Jay Park and ALLDAYPROJECT.
Jennie is next scheduled to perform at the Governors Ball on June 7.
