Arcade Knights Closes His Cinematic Synthwave Saga with “Neon Dreamers” from Cyber Hack

Arcade, the visionary behind the 80s-inspired Synthwave project Arcade Knights, has released “Neon Dreamers,” the powerful closing track from his latest album Cyber Hack. More than a song, it’s the anthem that encapsulates the album’s central theme: rebellion, resilience, and the fight to keep technology in check while embracing its possibilities.

“It all came out of rebellion. I see it as a retro-rebellion anthem,” Arcade explained. “The whole album, Cyber Hack, tells the story of 80s hackers using legacy tech to fight against an evil future AI. ‘Neon Dreamers’ is the closing track, the bookend that says, ‘We’ve got this.’”

Known for fusing authentic vintage drum machines and hardware synths with a modern twist, Arcade creates music that transports listeners into neon-drenched worlds of futuristic cityscapes. His immersive live shows combine pounding retro sounds with cinematic video projections, while each album also comes alive through companion stories that expand the universe he builds.

With Cyber Hack, the music is paired with ARCADE KNIGHTS: CybΞR HΛck: Uprising, a graphic novel set in the year 2088. Under MEK-ONE’s AI rule, freedom has been erased, and surveillance is absolute, but a rebellious alliance rises to fight back with rogue retro tech. The graphic novel offers cinematic artwork, detailed lore, and a world map that connects directly to the album’s cyberpunk storyline. “Each track is like a chapter,” Arcade said. “Fans even told me they read the graphic novel while spinning the album, like using it as the soundtrack. That blew me away.”

Fans have embraced this immersive vision in powerful ways. “A family sent me photos of their kids reading the graphic novel while listening to the album in headphones,” Arcade shared. “The parents were 80s kids like me, so they got the nostalgia, while their kids were discovering it fresh. That multi-generational connection is exactly what I hoped for.”

What makes Arcade Knights’ music stand apart is his commitment to authenticity. While many artists emulate 80s sounds with modern software, he insists on building every track entirely on hardware. “I don’t use a DAW or computer to compose. I use authentic 80s gear, synths like the Yamaha DX7 and Oberheim machines, the same instruments you’d hear in Blade Runner, The Lost Boys, Back to the Future, Terminator, and Goonies,” he explained. “That’s why people feel true nostalgia when they hear it; it’s not imitation, it’s the real thing. But I give it a modern twist to make it vibrant, warm, gritty, and futuristic all at once.”

That hands-on connection is what gives his work its cinematic quality. “Clicking a mouse didn’t give me the connection I needed,” he said. “So I scrapped that and dove into hardware, synths, drum machines, knobs, buttons. That tactile feedback is how I translate emotion into sound.”

Beyond nostalgia, Cyber Hack is a reflection on technology’s role in our world. “For Cyber Hack, I want people to question technology, especially AI. I’m not against it. I’m actually an ethical hacker in my day job, protecting industrial control systems, power grids, and chemical systems,” Arcade revealed. “I see the dangers, but I also see the benefits. This album asks, How much control do we give to AI?”

That tension comes to a hopeful resolution with “Neon Dreamers.” “The story ends on a positive note, the younger generation, the Neon Dreamers, carrying the torch to use AI for human advantage,” he said. “That positivity keeps me going.”

For Arcade, the project is only complete when it sparks a connection. “Hold on to the music that makes you feel something. Put it on repeat. Let it inspire you to do something positive, whether it’s driving at night, singing your lungs out, or making life decisions,” he encouraged. “Don’t just stream once and move on. Let nostalgia and motivation fuel your next steps.”
