Flow $tro Drops “Steppin” Featuring Skooly

“Steppin” came to Flow $tro much like his music generally does.

Hip-hop artist Flow $tro takes his flow to new heights with his latest single, “Steppin,” featuring Skooly. The emerging rapper is making waves in the industry and taking stage at SXSW 2025. His latest single is a memorable one for him, a collaboration with his long-admired fellow artist, Skooly.

Born and raised in Virginia, Flow $tro is the youngest of seven children. Before finding his passion for music, Flow $tro played basketball from grade school to college, demonstrating his strong commitment and determination to anything he put his mind and soul into. In high school, he began dabbling in music, recording on his grandfather’s computer to experiment with creating sound. He also began writing poetry around that time but kept his art to himself, never sharing with friends or family what he wrote.

It wasn’t until he was invited to jump on a track with friends (and at the encouragement of his godbrother) that Flow $tro began recording for a crowd. He continued collaborating with his companions and went on to record his first solo track a few years later.

At first, Flow $tro invested time and patience into his work by writing and listening until he saw progress. Within months, he dropped more beats that were loved by his peers. This led to his first project, $troetry, which was mostly recorded at his friend’s house in 2020. The mixtape created a stir, leading to the release hit “Pay Attention” featuring Boosie Badazz. Following the hit, Flow $tro released a second mixtape in 2022 dubbed $tro’s Flow, which paved the way for tour stops with Boosie.

These days, Flow $tro looks to other hip-hop artists for inspiration while keeping his own unique style; a few of his influences include Future, Young Thug, R&B in general, and “old-school music” like The Temptations.

Now in 2025, Flow $tro is focused on his latest single, “Steppin,” featuring an artist he has listened to for ages—none other than Skooly of Rich Kidz.

“Steppin” came to Flow $tro much like his music generally does. When it comes to writing music, Flow $tro jots down thoughts and takes them into the studio. “Whatever comes to mind when I hear the beat, I write,” shares Flow $tro. “More recently, I’ve been punching in, free styling. I still write, too. It gets tedious, just sitting there.” Instead of asking listeners to pay attention to a particular message within the song, Flow $tro hopes they just listen and enjoy it—connect with it.

Long before Flow $tro collaborated with Skooly on “Steppin,” he was a fan. “I take inspiration from him in terms of my style. I listened to him before I got into music.” Needless to say, the collaboration was a memorable moment for the artist.

“I had this song made before I got him on there,” explains Flow $tro. “My manager told me to get Skooly on the verse and drop my second verse. I feel like he added his own sauce to it. It would’ve been a good song, but with him on it, it made it better for sure.”

In addition to his latest single, Flow $tro looks forward to sharing more new music with listeners throughout the year. “I’m working on more music, more videos, more content,” shares the artist, who is also performing at SXSW. “Recording is where I can be real creative. But I’m looking forward to getting back on stage and connecting with fans.”
