“It was just like a situationship I had. The toxic situationship,” Hutch explained about the inspiration behind Maze. Originally moving to Los Angeles from Massachusetts to pursue fashion, she started drumming for other artists in live shows. “I never thought I was gonna tap into the artist direction,” she said. A chance encounter during a studio session led her to try recording vocals. “I was just faded, and I was like, let me see what happens. And somebody told me, like, you used to have a cool voice. I’m like, okay. Didn’t even know. And, yeah, I gave it a shot.”
