For Hutch, the process of releasing Maze was a significant step in overcoming her own hesitations.
JustHutch, a 23-year-old recording artist and drummer, invites listeners into her world of vulnerability and self-expression with her latest EP, Maze. The project draws from personal experiences, particularly a toxic situationship, showcasing Hutch’s raw honesty and ability to translate emotions into music.
Exploring the Concept
“It was just like a situationship I had. The toxic situationship,” Hutch explained about the inspiration behind Maze. The EP reflects a mix of emotions, with the artist admitting she’s still navigating her musical identity. “People are like, you know, you gotta stick to one genre,” she shared, adding that she desires to showcase her diverse range of musical abilities. Despite this, Hutch is determined to refine her sound and focus on a specific genre in future projects.
Creating the EP
For Hutch, the process of releasing Maze was a significant step in overcoming her own hesitations. “I just had those songs in the vault,” she revealed. “I was gonna do nothing with it anyway, but I know you gotta push out songs. Just put it out.” This shift in mindset reflects her growth as an artist and a willingness to let go of perfectionism.
One of the standout tracks for Hutch is “Options.” “It’s a vibe,” she said enthusiastically. “That’s what a lot of people seem to like more. I’m just saying that I got options.” The song’s relatable message and catchy melody make it a fan favorite.
Challenges and Growth
The journey to releasing Maze wasn’t without its difficulties. Hutch cited her stubbornness and self-doubt as major obstacles. “That’s my biggest thing, just putting it out. I’ll work on mass songs and just not put it out,” she admitted. However, this project marks a turning point. “I gotta just put it out,” she emphasized.
Hutch’s overarching message for listeners is clear: trust yourself. “Do what you wanna do. Don’t let other people’s opinions stop you,” she advised. “I feel like everybody overthinks things too much. Just trust yourself, and everything will align.”
Reflecting on Her Musical Journey
Hutch’s journey to becoming an artist began in an unexpected way. Originally moving to Los Angeles from Massachusetts to pursue fashion, she started drumming for other artists in live shows. “I never thought I was gonna tap into the artist direction,” she said. A chance encounter during a studio session led her to try recording vocals. “I was just faded, and I was like, let me see what happens. And somebody told me, like, you used to have a cool voice. I’m like, okay. Didn’t even know. And, yeah, I gave it a shot.”
What’s Next?
Hutch is keeping her plans open, but she’s committed to creating more music. “I’m just gonna keep making more music,” she said. Fans can look forward to her continued exploration of genres and sounds as she grows as an artist.
With Maze, JustHutch offers an authentic glimpse into her life and emotions, solidifying her place as a rising artist to watch. Her commitment to trusting herself and sharing her truth resonates deeply, leaving listeners eagerly anticipating what’s next.
