Singer-songwriter Gable Burnett introduces her debut single “Trouble,” a vibrant, country-pop melody infused with a robust southern charm.
This unique blend, a testament to her musical prowess, is further enhanced by her playful instrumentation and compelling storytelling lyrics. Inspired by her formative years in East Tennessee, “Trouble” captures the mischievous adventures of her youth and her rich Appalachian heritage.
More than just a country-pop tune, it embodies themes of self-expression and cultural celebration, serving as an anthem for those embracing their true selves while honoring their origin stories.
“I was always getting into things as a child. I was always getting in trouble, so much so that all my friends and family vividly remember that chapter of my life. I’m collecting all those stories from folks to release as a visual collection on social media!” enthused Burnett.
Although “Trouble” is her debut single, it’s not the first song she’s published. Last year, Burnett released three tracks: the first was “Rumor Mill,” the second was “Cicada Summer,” and “Trouble” was the third song she released before meeting her manager and production team.
Burnett had plans to release each single from her debut album separately until the husband and wife producing duo Ren and Andi Renfree entered the scene. The Renfrees enjoyed Burnett’s music so much that they suggested rereleasing all three singles under a new project.
“Andi and Ren have been incredible. I’ve also been working closely with Nick Brown, my ongoing producer, but it’s been nice to have everyone’s hands on this project and this new single in particular,” shared Burnett.
Since 2018, Burnett has captivated audiences with her magnetic stage presence and vibrant energy at writer’s rounds, showcases, farmers’ markets, and festivals. Her music blends classic country roots with contemporary innovation, influenced by icons such as Dolly Parton and Tyler Childers.
Echoing the versatility of these legendary artists, in addition to her compelling vocals, Burnett incorporates guitar into her music while exploring various other instruments.
“Country is in a fascinating place right now. It’s such a huge umbrella genre. There was a Ken Burns country music doc on PBS that talked about this phenomenon in country music. He said that every 10 to 15 years, country music goes through a massive shift,” explained Burnett, offering a unique perspective on the evolution of country music.
According to the eight-part series, outlaw country characterized the ’50s and ’60s — think Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. The ’70s and ’80s saw the rise of the urban cowboy — a neo-traditional country sound with pop influences prominent in songs like “All My Exes Live in Texas” by George Strait and "Forever and Ever, Amen" by Randy Travis.
The ’90s were all about the rise of country pop — Garth Brooks and Shania Twain dominated this period with country pop going mainstream. The 2000s brought about the rebirth of country rock and bro-country, featuring party themes, trucks, and rural iconography.
It seems somewhat unclear where country music is headed now, but it’s undoubtedly expanding and making room for new sounds and voices.
“I would say my music is a mix of country, Americana with a bit of rock, bluegrass, red dirt, and old school country – it all depends on who’s listening and what their perspective is on country music and the history of country music,” shared Burnett.
While there’s no definitive timeline or date for the new album, Burnett and her team are busy working on new music and an upcoming performance. For fans and all country enthusiasts, Burnett has a showcase coming up in August at The Mockingbird Theater in Franklin, Tennessee.
