NEW YORK CITY — New artist and New York City native ren.y.c is working  hard to make a difference in music and life as she starts her career in hip hop.

Ren.y.c just released her first single and video, called “Wicky” and it's a statement about life while speaking out against gun violence, especially in schools.

“When I was making it I was thinking about school shootings so I wanted that to be the message,” ren.y.c said. “That was what I was kind of thinking about but I didn’t want to put the message in the song. I wanted to put that part in the video.”

The 21-year-old artist is known for her unique blend of gritty trap and drill beats with catchy melodies, delivering raw, emotionally engaging story telling.

Her music delivers a catchy upbeat sound while her video calls out against gun violence with scenes of her with tape on her mouth saying “stop gun violence,” mixed with news clips of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Ren.y.c said she’s driven by a mission to spread authenticity and raise awareness while fearlessly addressing social issue and maintaining a family friendly approach.

“I’ve been into music my whole life, ever since I can remember, but I just started making music about a year ago,” she said. “It’s still pretty new and this is my first and only song that’s out right now.”

Ren.y.c said she wanted to address gun violence because it is an important social issue, but she still wanted to maintain a lighter family-friendly sound in her music.

“I didn’t want this song to be so heavy, but I wanted to address it visually with the video,” ren.y.c said. “It flowed well when we made the video. I don't think I did anything special, it was natural.”

Ren.y.c said her music reflects her values, including family, health, and fitness, and she finds inspiration during car rides, outdoor activities, and at the gym. Her deep connection with God is woven into her music, conveying heartfelt messages.
