Shanti Chapman believes everybody has a purpose, a destiny on this earth to accomplish. And he’s confident that sharing positive music is part of his destiny.
“And I have the mindset, the determination, the tenacity to follow through with that,” he says. “It’s not an easy journey. If you have a purpose in this life, it’s just a matter of continuing on and being persistent. Eventually things will come to fruition that were intended for you to do.”
Chapman is a former United States Army musician, where he played instruments like the piano and marching bass drum in groups performing different genres. It was that experience that helped shape his dedication and resilience. His desire to create and record his own music dates back even further.
His parents divorced when he was 10 years old and he “spun out of control” until he found himself in a very dark place at age 15.
“We weren’t really religious, didn’t go to church or anything but one day I just cried out and said, ‘God, if you exist, show me that you’re real.’ That’s when I started my faith journey and I started listening to gospel music and the music transformed me and inspired me. It was just so powerful and it made such a difference, gave me direction and purpose. That’s what I want to happen with other people when they hear my music. I hope it puts them on the right path, gives them hope, gives them direction and purpose, all those things.”
Chapman’s mission to inspire and uplift others with a message of hope and faith continues with the release of his powerful new gospel single “Joy Comes in the Morning.” It’s one of about 20 songs he’s written so far, and the first he’s ready to share with the world.
“The inspiration behind it comes from scripture in the Bible that says we may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning,” he says. “Basically one day I was just sitting by the piano playing some chords and I was inspired to put a melody and those words to it. Things just flowed from there.”
Chapman, with smooth and captivating vocals, combines soulful melodies and uplifting lyrics to form a song that can reach people from all walks of life. Though it’s a powerful gospel song, he says his music is universal.
“It’s for all people regardless of faith,” he says. “It’s just music for the world.”
Chapman will head to the studio this fall to record eight songs for a new project, bringing life to some of the tracks he’s been sitting on. All of them fall within the “inspirational” realm of music.
“Ultimately my purpose in life is to motivate others to identify their purpose and then actually walk it through and accomplish the destiny they have on this earth,” he says. “Once I reach that point of success musically I want to reach back with what I’ve learned and help others. It doesn’t even have to be music because the lessons I’ve learned are pretty much universal. Anybody with a goal or vision, I want to be able to invest in them and help them accomplish their dreams.”
