Pop Group Moxxy Bring Energy and Female Empowerment

LOS ANGELES,CA—Pop group Moxxy puts reality into their name. The three member group—dancers Lina Lux, CJ Marie, and Briana Milner— create a fun, positive, and confident sound that is reflected in their live shows. Moxxy wants to represent their diversity and female empowerment with fun while showing off their varied skills as professional dancers.

The group met in a dance class just after Briana had relocated to Los Angeles. Lux and Marie were already forming Moxxy, but saw Bri’s skills and asked her to join. The three combine their seasoned dance histories in a symbiotic rhythm, mixing belly dancing (as seen in the music video for their track, “Sensuous”) and freestyle.

“It's very individualized because we are all very different physically, racially, backgrounds, culturally,” says Milner. “But also in the dance styles we do, how our voices sound, we are very much a Spice Girls vibe.”

On their latest track, “Extra,” Moxxy brings a classic pop with trap sound together to make a catchy single that talks about being confident in yourself, manifesting girl power, and not allowing anyone to take that away from you. It’s an upbeat and relatable track that Milner says is a meaningful single for Moxxy.

It means a lot to us because it's a very fun way to share a perspective that we want people to feel about themselves. 'Extra' is just about recognizing the respect that you deserve, and the value that you have in yourself. Some of the lyrics are: ‘You ain't gotta act like that/Don't be extra/I'm a superstar in the movie/You an extra,’ explains Milner, who with the rest of Moxxy have created a TikTok challenge for the track. “It's a double meaning for the word ‘extra’ because we're saying, ‘I’m a superstar in a movie you an extra’ as in, I know that I'm a boss lady bitch—I've put in all of this internal and external work to be who I am today. And I don't really have to lower my standards for anybody.'”

Moxxy is currently on the festival circuit, performing at Lightning in a Bottle and Northern Nights festivals. Their live shows have proven to be eclectic each night—switching from a live backing band, to featured DJs, or just the three members dancing on-stage. Fans that attend multiple shows will have a different experience each time.

“That's also part of the fun. Like, it's a completely different experience,” says Milner. “We love it. That's a huge part of who we are is the experience of us live.”

After their festival run, Moxxy will be releasing two singles, “Shimmer Shimmer” and “Roller Coaster.”

“We really share our stories because we want people to feel like they can relate to us. We want people to see themselves in us.”
